Looking for recs about Clones~

(Anonymous) 2013-07-23 12:09 am (UTC)(link)
Recently watched Orphan Black Season 1 (which is AMAZING) and now am on a clone kick. Any recs? Doesn't matter what media. Film, book, tv series.

I'd love you forever if there was any exchanges between the clone and creator, who'd be all 'but you're so ~beautiful~'

I loved "Joshua, Son of None" by Nancy Freedman. 1975 book but very well done, IMHO.

Or Levin's "The Boys from Brazil" from the same decade. Book was better than the movie overall but still pretty great.

Cloning is a reoccurring theme in Stargate SG1. There's a complete list of episodes that deal with the subject, but the main human/human-ish ones I'd recommend if you want to pick and choose (mild spoilers):

Tin Man (S01E19) - The main cast is replaced with a set of mechanical clones when they come back from a mission. The clones think that they are the originals. They are not "evil" in any sense.

Double Jeopardy(S04E21) - The clones from Tin Man return.

Fragile Balance (S07E03) - The main character is seemingly de-aged into a teenager, but it turns out he's actually been replaced with a biologically identical teenage clone. Both he and the original have to come to terms with this.

And not a specific episode, but beginning in Season 9, Ba'al, one of the main villains of the series, begins to clone himself so that he can never truly be killed. He and his clones appear in seven episodes as well as one of the final TV movies. Both he and his clones seem to be pretty down with sticking to and executing villainous plans in tandem though, so there's not as much philosophical arm stretching on clone vs original as there is in the other episodes I listed.

Never Let Me Go. The book, not the movie.
cloud_riven: Stick-man styled Apollo Justice wearing a Santa hat, and also holding a giant candy cane staff. (Default)

You should watch Venture Bros. Specifically at least the first two seasons, and also more and forever keep watching this awesome Adult Swim cartoon.

My latest fannish obsession compels me to say The Clone Wars, though it may not be what you're after.

Clone stuff that gets into the clone stuff:
-The Pokemon movies with Mewtwo
-Young Justice
-And seconding Ba'al from Stargate, that was the most amazing handling of clonevillains I've ever seen.

The Prestige. Movie by Christopher Nolan (with Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale, David Bowie, Scarlett Johansson and Michael Caine), novel by Christopher Priest. (And now I've probably spoiled both of them.)

Twins don't technically count as clones. (Oops...)

clones pop up in an episode or two of the cartoon Danny Phantom. there are a few angsty fics about it

the creepiness -in the cartoon- comes from why the clones were created (one of Danny's enemies being obsessed with making Danny his son)

like, really creepy; "putting cameras all over your house and stealing your DNA because you refuse to come with me so I will make another you, a perfect you" kind of creepy
