Well, I'm not a scientist-in-training in any way and even I could see those two guys were portrayed as OTT loose cannons. Maybe that's why they were working for a renegade resistance force and not, say, in a lab somewhere. This kind of setting calls for that kind of characters.

Well yeah. I found the movie's treatment of science unrealistic in a way that was suitable for its purposes. I was trying to gauge how much the AIRT was missing the point of the monster punching movie so they could start as a sentence with "As a scientist-in-training..."
