It's the "persona they put on for the public" thing I have a problem with. People who love RPF/RPS tend to have this view that who these people are when they're "in public" is not "who they really are" and "a character," and thus, that makes it okay because "it's the same thing as shipping characters!"

But it's never going to be the same thing as shipping characters. People, regardless of how they behave in front of one group or another, are always displaying some facet of themselves. This reduction of someone in to one particular part with which you can play because it's "fake" just rubs me the wrong way eight ways to Jupiter.

I'm not into RPF and I know there isn't a damn thing in this world that's going to make people stop liking it. If you do, cool, whatever--it's just that this really sketchy bizarre stretch that "Oh, it's okay, who they are in public is just a character anyway" that people always bring up without fail that's seriously YEESH in all the wrong ways. I mean, tons of completely regular people fantasize about two famous people getting their thang on without making creepy "oh, their public persona is fake anyway" excuses, so..?
