I'm not that sure that the tinhatters are RPS fans. IT hink that they're a completely different brand of absolutely batshit insane.

However, if that's your only brush with an RPS fandom... I can totally understand why you think we're all creepy.

I'mma need someone to do a typology of RPS fans now. For science.

From an SPN perspective, we have, in order from most to least creepy:

- The Tin-Hatter, convinced it's real and any evidence and marriages to the contrary are part of a cover-up.
- The Public-Personas-As-Characters-Shipper, who is treating public appearances as a sort of canon from which fic (missing scenes fic, yo) and meta may be derived. Sometimes involves non-famous people.
- The AUer - While maintaining very basic traits of public personas, and sometimes part of their life stories, creates original stories that are clearly fabrications.
- The Fuck-It, That's Pretty Fan - Have abandoned all pretense that this has anything to do with anything other than the actors' looks. Lengthy AUs with original characterisations usually fall here.

Bless you, anon. Now to get some combined qual/quant data that determines statistical prevalence of each of these types...
