because a lot of times, through interviews and such, we see the actors being cute together and start shipping them. In my case, I only have one RPF ship. I know very well they aren't together and know they're happy with their SOs but I still think they're cute together and like to read fic about them.

it's also not really the actors anyway because we'll never really know what they're like, only what they let the public see. Authors are still making up their personalities and everyday lives, for the most part.

Exactly. And how exactly is that different than reading an article in one of those magazines at the checkout lane about whether he's dating her? (Besides the fact that it's usually he's dating him in RPF.)
