It might have just been an action movie, but it was an exceedingly well-done one. All the cast had chemistry with at least someone (Ruffalo being the surprise find of this movie) and it was about superheroes being super but with problems. It was also an origin story, which usually have more fans that sequels. The dialogue was well-written, and it tied the other films together, which made it the first of its kind for this sort of thing (a success DC is going to try really hard to duplicate.) The fandom is also awesome, and there's really something for everyone.

All that aside? You waited too long, and hype ruins things. Had you seen it in theaters and in its peak period, you probably would have liked it more.
