I found the Snape-Lily flashbacks some of the least believable scenes in the books, but the thing your position seems to be hinging on is the definition of love, and that's a semantic argument. I saw it as love the way someone would love an idol or a position. It was obsessive but I don't think obsession and "love" are mutually exclusive. It was unhealthy in the extreme, but his actions as a Death Eater don't mean he didn't love her, just that he probably had some major denial and cognitive dissonance going on. He probably convinced himself that none of this would touch her, she was different/special/whatever, just all the other muggle-born.
