It's all about the definition of "love" you're using
I think a lot of people on this thread are defining "love" the way I'd define "affection" or "bonding." I think Snape had affection for Lily, and was attached to her, but he clearly showed no regard for her well-being. He only cared about her in relation to him. To me, that's not love.
I think that's where the argument comes from. I don't think anyone is really disagreeing about how Snape feels about Lily and whether the way he treated her was okay. It's just a matter of what words you use to express what feelings.
