I've stopped believing anything that anyone on f!secrets claims to be true about this fandom.

Some of the people I follow that ship spirk tag some ships as brotp themselves (mainly Kirk/Bones but even Spock/Uhura the latter I saw it tagged as brotp on an edit with their kiss even .. lol )

Kirk/Spock are my brotp and Spock/McCoy and Kirk/McCoy are my Space Husbands.

Amen to that.

I'm all Spock/McCoy for TOS and Kirk/McCoy for the new one. And then I think of Kirk and Spock like brothers from another mother.

I'm willing to ship/friend-ship pretty much any combination of the main trio.

Why do you still tag them space husbands?

Yeah for a long time I thought I shipped them, then I tried reading fic and it just felt so off (and trying to read smut was horrific). I couldn't honestly believe it would ever happen. I came to the same conclusion, OP.

I could have written this secret! It totally snuck up on me, but I really prefer gen fic.
I think I'd be more into it in the original series if I ever get around to watching it.

That's funny, OP. I never shipped them. Not through the original series, not through fics or even fan art I saw.

And yet, the last movie, of all things, felt nothing less than a declaration of love between the two. So, I might ship them now. Maybe just in that universe.

In the reboot 'verse...yeah, IA.

I think they both have an "angry defensive loners find kindred spirits" thing going on in the reboot, which is total friendship-material for me, romance just seems kind of superfluous and overcomplicating, at least at this point in time.

It's very different from the "extroverted friendly guy stealth-befriends reserved professional outsider" thing they have going on in TOS -- which I personally ship a lot more because it's more...delicate? Tentative? Deliberate? Sneaky? Wordless? Which is more the kind of thing I prefer in romantic ships ;)

In TOS it's like they can read each other minds. Not literally (well not unless you go into vulcan mind melds but nvm that), but that they know each other so well they can pick out what the other will do in a given situation. Which is very intimate. It's the kind of relationship I see in good marriages and soulmates if you believe in that sort of thing.

I ship K/S pretty damn hard but it takes a really good author for me to really be able to picture Spock in a sexual relationship.

For me it's more that Spock has a very distinctive way of speaking and it's really painful when an author fucks that up. Well, painful or hilarious. Man, one Kirk/Spock fic I was trying to read seriously had Kirk refer to Spock's penis as a "sage sausage" and from that point on I read the fic more as something funny than something serious and sexy and I had a grand ole time lol. Don't have the link tho, sorry...it was on AO3.

I thought I shipped it but reading the fanfictions made me realize that I find them more believable and in character as friends than as lovers. They're my Bro One True Pairing now (but I still tag their posts with the space husbands tag).

I ship the hell out of the ToS Spock and Kirk.

But reboot Spock and Kirk? Nope, can't do it. I can only see them as friends.

I just can't.

As much as I like the films, Nu!Trek has ruined me on those two. They tried too fucking hard and it's become unbelievable to me. Especially after the awesome that was Kirk/Bones last film and it was fucking squandered for this Kirk/Spock "friendship" that we're TOLD is awesome, but we didn't see happen. And in SUCH a short amount of time between films? Nope, sorry. No way. I don't believe it.

Especially with the cautious respect might/might not become friends in the first film.

God, Bones' treatment in the last film pissed me off so hard. And this is without my McKirk shipper goggles clouding my judgement. It's like they had no clue that it is a TRIO

I mean there is a LOT of fic out there. Maybe you're just not reading ones that spin the ship how you'd like?

I, for one, just have a hard time thinking that Spock doesn't love Uhura and no amount of anti shipper meta or essays can convince me that he is still with her only because he's in denial about his true love for Kirk

Well, you can read Kirk/Spock fanfic without saying that Spock in the new series doesn't currently love Uhura. Ugh, some Kirk/Spock fans do need to check themselves :S
