In the reboot 'verse...yeah, IA.

I think they both have an "angry defensive loners find kindred spirits" thing going on in the reboot, which is total friendship-material for me, romance just seems kind of superfluous and overcomplicating, at least at this point in time.

It's very different from the "extroverted friendly guy stealth-befriends reserved professional outsider" thing they have going on in TOS -- which I personally ship a lot more because it's more...delicate? Tentative? Deliberate? Sneaky? Wordless? Which is more the kind of thing I prefer in romantic ships ;)

In TOS it's like they can read each other minds. Not literally (well not unless you go into vulcan mind melds but nvm that), but that they know each other so well they can pick out what the other will do in a given situation. Which is very intimate. It's the kind of relationship I see in good marriages and soulmates if you believe in that sort of thing.
