Story Podcast Recs

[personal profile] sootyowl 2013-07-24 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
With Welcome to Night Vale soaring high, I was wondering if anyone had any other good story driven podcasts to rec? I'm good with all kinds but Westerns.

I'm also open for general podcast recs :D

I'm a huge fan of Jake and Amir's "If I Were You Show," which is an "advice" podcast that just cracks me up.

Thanks :) Listening to it right now! Listening to them telling some girl to breakup with their bf 'cause he has a "hey ya" tattoo. It's cracking me up.

Isn't that a movie or tv show also? I'll look it up! Thanks :)

Mmmm. There might be but it is unrelated. If you need the audio copies (it isn't free like Night Vale) I got them all DL'd and can probably put them on Dropbox.

Thank you for the offer! But I think I found a place to get season 1-4. Hopefully they're alright.

(Now I just have to hope I can get them onto my iPod. It's not connecting to my computer suddenly ;___;)

You could try old radio plays. I know there's copies of The Shadow [from way back when it *was* a radio play] floating around in the internet.

I'll look into it, thanks!

I hope you enjoy it! =) It's what created the phrase "Who knows? The Shadow knows/what pretty much anything The Shadow [and a few other heroes] srang from.

Though, I should add - if you've seen some of the more recent [...ish] Shadow comics, it's a bit different.

Huh. Neat!

I have never read the Shadow comics. I never heard of The Shadow until today. So it's gonna be a new adventure for me.

Look for old episodes of Seeing Ear Theater, if you can find them. Particularly "They're Made out of Meat" (Terry Bisson's short story) and "The Wheel" (Nana Visitor and Andrew Robinson in a post-nuclear world trying to outrun a giant terraforming machine) and Andreas Katsulas and Peter Jurasik reincarnated into lemmings at the end of the world (better than it sounds.)

FOUND IT and in mp3s too. I forgot just how awesome these were:

Oh! Check out Lake Woebegon! It's basically set up with this guy talking about the going ons in his 'home town' [which is the fictional Lake Woebegon, Mich.] and, while the stories aren't drawn out over multiple shows, it's pretty entertaining.

I will :) Thank you!

ffs above anon, Lake Wobegon is not a podcast. It's a feature on Prairie Home Companion, which is a long-running radio comedy variety show on NPR, and a fictionalized Minnesotan town in the writings of Garrison Keillor (who hosts the show).

That might help you find it easier.

SORRY I'M JUST REALLY IRRATIONALLY ANGRY I grew up listening to this and anon could easily have gotten it right but noooope

by the way-- phc isn't just about wobegon. there's other features, including Guy Noir, about a private eye; "The Lives of the Cowboys," about two cowboys named Dusty and Lefty; unrelated skits and radio drama about current events; and musical features, usually folk, bluegrass, or gospel

Aww, this reminds me of a podcast I was doing with a friend. It was based off Zombies, Run!, which is an amazing game.

Man, we need to get that off the ground.

It's not a serial, but Nightmare magazine has recordings of its horror stories, and it's sister Lightspeed has fantasy and scifi.

I just downloaded the Podcast (the first time I'd ever done so) and... wow.

I think I should hear it during the daytime, you know? Just to be safe...

I tried listening WtNV before bed and I couldn't >.< I was scared I'd have nightmares, so I listened to a comedic one instead.

I am obviously a very brave person.
