I'm curious as to what that difference is? Or is it just a difference in wording and implications, like "stay-at-home" implies that you're limiting yourself in ways that "house[spouse]" or "homemaker" don't?

Stay at home parents have kids and their days tend to specifically revolve around the children, which often has little to do with the home and more to do with extracurricular activities. House[spouse]-es either don't have kids or their time doesn't revolve mostly around them.

Huh. My mom described herself as a "homemaker" even when she was taking care of my siblings and I full time, when we were younger.
