Re: Any creepy admirers, FS?
When I hit college, all of a sudden it was like all the dudes noticed I was a woman. I'd had a grand total one one person (my then-long-term-boyfriend) ever admit any attraction to me in high school, and only one other person who I had reason to think was attracted to me.
I'm sure part of the reason is that I often hang out in nerdy spaces dominated by guys - namely, Yu-Gi-Oh! (the number of men/boys whose thought process goes "likes YGO, has rudimentary tits and nice face? SO HAWT" is staggering) - but it's happened in other places too, like work. Usually though it's nbd. There was one dude, though, who I met through a YGO friend. We had a group of friends who hung out a few times a couple summers ago. This dude was at the local card shop I go to for tourneys and my friend and I were joking; we had a "soap opera" going on with some of us where we pretended I was "married" to him and his wife was "married" to another friend in the group (it was really silly and completely un-serious) and he made a silly comment like "that's no way to treat your husband!" The creepy dude was like "wait" and I laughed and said "I'm not really married to him; it's a joke. In fact he's married to someone else." And the dude was like "oh, good. Raichu's mine."* I think my jaw just about hit the floor - like, "excuse you?!?!?"
After that when we went to the park and I hung out with another male friend he got really jealous and said he didn't like the other friend (who I wasn't doing anything with but HANGING OUT).
Oh, and there was yet another dude - connected to the same group - who asked me out online through his brother and got really offended when I said no, to the point of being angry at me and taking it out on me later with rude remarks.
I never felt threatened by any of this, but the level of entitlement some dudes have towards women is mind-boggling. I'm not an object you can buy at a store, so FUCK OFF.
*actual dialogue - my nickname in that group was Raichu, which is also my online handle in most places
