Wow, my mom's just like that. She had no friends at all, and not because nobody wanted to, but because she pushed everyone away. She was this ball of anger and stress, entirely focused on us and on hating my dad (he did screw her over big time, but that was 17 years ago). I moved out 3 years ago and my sister, last year. At first she was really depressed, so much that I considered taking a year off college to take care of her, but now she's so much better it's ridiculous. She's really calm, goes out with friends every week, and even talks to my father instead of telling us to say this or that to him. I think she couldn't really get over what my dad did to her, and that made her super controlling and stressed, so when stopped being responsible for us, she rerouted that energy to herself.

Well that gives me some hope. I keep on hearing that she used to be a lot saner so she might be able to get back on her feat.
