Y'know? Yeah, I agree.

Maybe calling her Umbridge is going too far. Umbridge was ultimately a self-serving person--she wasn't really doing bad things because she thought it was Right.

But Hermione...

Hermione is freaking terrifying.

The only thing I can see for "role model for young girls" in her is that, yeah, it is kind of admirable for girls--especially girls 10+ years ago--to see a girl character who was smart instead of popular (not that popular is bad, just that Hermione, especially early on, was unpopular in part because of how smart she was) and who never felt ashamed of being smart.

But I wouldn't want to be her friend.

Everyone points out the birds she attacked Ron with or punching Draco, but those were moments of rage and that happens. What's way more scary is when Hermione puts thought into what she does.

She does horrible, vicious things to people because The End Justifies The Means. She's sneaky and underhanded, even with her friends. And not just about big things--about little things too. She's always convinced that She Knows Best, and she's a powerful and clever enough person for that to make her dangerous as hell.

And in the, she's almost always justified for her actions and that somehow makes it worse.

So what you're saying is that she's a straight-up gangster, and that she shouldn't be.

I really like the idea of her succeeding Dumbledore, the parallels are already there.
