I must be an asshole, because I'm really curious about how they'll approach it on-show. They have to address it, they already blew all their chances to write Finn out (the Army, breaking up with Rachel, moving off to college). He's going to have to either be put on a bus or killed off. They'd never re-cast him.

It's been confirmed that he'll be killed off. Third episode I believe.

Wow. That seems a little...harsh?

Lea has given her blessing too. TBH, it's the best way to handle it imo.

It's seen as the best way for TV shows to handle real-life deaths. Even Sesame Street US did it when the actor for Mr. Hooper died in the 80s.

They have to, though. It'd be deeply OOC for Finn to take off and never have any contact with the other characters again -- especially as his mom is married to Kurt's dad on the show. Killing the character will be painful but it's the best thing they could do.

They've given the method in which he's being written out but not details. And I'm curious, too. I mean, I definitely feel bad for everybody in real life and just for the general loss of life, but Finn is the only way I "knew" Cory Monteith, so how that's handled I think will resonate in a bigger way. In fact, I think some of the best episodes of TV have been ones where a character had to be written out because of a death (obvs I'd prefer John Spencer, John Ritter and PHil Hartman were still alive, but those WERE really good episodes).

(Also, I haven't watched for real in forever. How did they handle the military thing? Because it sounds like he was around a lot for a dude in the military.)

They dropped the military thing. Finn got discharged for incompetence or something. He realised his dream was to become a teacher instead.

ayrt

IIRC, he went in because his dad had been a military hero, and Finn wanted to be useful like him, but he wasn't really cut out for it. I think the implication was he was too dumb and uncoordinated, besides not liking it?

So he took a job at his stepdad's auto shop and kind of... hung around the school like a loser for a few months, roaming the halls when he wasn't "co-leading" the Glee club, until he decided he was going to go to college and get a teaching degree.

Considering they showed him at college drinking like a fish, they're probably gonna have him be killed in a car crash or getting alcohol poisoning.
