It's not a handle, it's a hand towel rack. That being said, it shouldn't have come off the wall like that and your building is not doing right by you in treating you this way.

I have never comfortably placed a hand towel or rag there. I've always used those things as a way to help steady myself if I need to, so I'm confused as to where this hand towel thing is coming from. Especially when you have one on the wall else where.

Maybe we're just not understanding what you're talking about. Can you point us to similar photos online or something?

As for the bars I usually see instead of the one on the soap dish (people usually get a normal non-handle soap dish) look like this, which we don't have:

I'm used to the two images above and have always thought the soap dish had a handle. Either way, I grabbed it to make sure I wouldn't get hurt and then find out the wall is wet underneath and now trying to want to come down.

Because they're wrong? You put a damn washcloth on it. It's not going to be a reinforced grab bar. What some people/retailers might call it has nothing to do with its actual function. The top picture in the series you posted isn't even round, which is what you'd normally expect from a grab bar.

I don't understand why this is so important to you. It's entirely peripheral to the greater issue, that your walls have water damage. Let it go.

And there's a ROUND grab bar soap dish out there that's meant to be held on to.

I urge you to call the company, hardware stores, etc and ask them. They'll tell you the same thing - it's not meant as a handle to hold human weight or be pulled on like your did.

I'm kind of baffled and amused that you both didn't know this already and that you're stubbornly refusing to acknowledge something everyone else here takes as a basic fact.

To reiterate, it doesn't fucking matter what it's called. It's NOT meant for grabbing on to when your clumsy ass slips in the damn tub. Depending on how badly it's wrenched, it's going to come out of the wall unless it's reinforced, regardless of the state of the wall behind it!
