I don't mind it so much if people also use "male" in the same way, as a noun rather than an adjective. It's just icky when people say "men" but then use "females", and it just sounds dehumanizing, as though we're some animal species.

Men/women are the terms for humans, males/females are for any creature.

The problem is people don't use male in the same way. "Female" is pretty much universally used to degrade, where as male is only ever used as a statement of sex.
