Oh, I'm the same - I'm an atheist, but I love fair, funny portrayals of Death in any medium (this is the main reason Death is my favourite Discworld character). It makes me feel better about my own mortality when I'm thinking about it too much and it's frightening me.

I don't think it's blasphemous or stupid that reading something like this brought you closer to your faith - the best fiction tells us something about ourselves, inspires us and affects our lives. (I say this as someone who was eventually brought out of three years of clinical depression by a video game, so massive changes of mindset due to a story you love? Yeah, I can understand that.)

I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope you're feeling better.
