GRRRRRRR!!!

[personal profile] tabaqui 2013-07-27 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been waiting to see Pacific Rim - life and money got in the way of me seeing it right off - and now.... IT'S NOT HERE ANYMORE!! My stupid local theatre has already shuffled it off the schedule. And it's not showing at nearby town, anymore, either.

ARRGH. I really wanted to see it on the big screen.

Re: GRRRRRRR!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Sucks to be you then, is there nowhere in a three hour radius that is showing it, because you will need to see it on the big screen. It rocks, but it is going to suck on the small screen. This is a real movie theater experience movie, probably the first to do justice to the idea of being a blockbuster in years.

OMG you are mean.

:)

I might be able to see it in two-hours-away town if we go there for school-clothes shopping, but who knows.

Grrr.

Re: GRRRRRRR!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 09:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Go. Trust me, it is worth a day trip. Frankly it is made of a concentration of fifteen kinds of awesome and would justify even a short flight to go see.

I'll have to see if anyone there is still showing it and then figure out when we might actually have the school-clothes budget happening.

Drove 90 minutes to see it on a good screen. worth it.

I'll have to drive two hours, but hopefully someone will still have it....

Re: GRRRRRRR!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
That sucks. Especially because, like the other anon says, it is a movie that is built for the big screen (which is arguably a dumb move in this day and age and era of movie economics, but, well, there you are)

Re: GRRRRRRR!!!

[personal profile] tabaqui 2013-07-27 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I know! I totally wanted the big screen 'thing'. I usually don't care, but Iron Man, Avengers, *this* - must see on a big screen.

*sigh*

Used to be, movies stuck around for longer than two damn weeks.

Re: GRRRRRRR!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
It is bigger than Iron Man and Avengers (puns not intended), Pacific Rim is on a total other level from them.

This is a movie designed to make people buy home cinema equipment and convert a room into their own "Big Screen" with a wall set aside to have a projector put on. Possibly even to make people build a two storey structure for it too.

One thing, despite it being *big* in all sense of the word, it doesn't need to be seen in 3D. It is so well crafted (and the word *craft* exactly describes it) that the 3D is almost incidental to it.

Heeeeee!

Oh, i don't do 3d, it makes me motion sick. A lot of things make me motion sick, meh.

Re: GRRRRRRR!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)
yes, exactly all of this.

It's such a classic movie in some ways - it just doesn't have any truck with things like 3d or modern innovations, except for being able to use CGI to make things look good. Even in terms of storytelling, it's delightfully old-school.

do see it on a big screen if you get a chance! oh man, now i want to go watch it again...

True. But used to be that there were less movies to put out. I kind of like it this way. It used to be that if you didn't like the movies that were coming out, you were out of luck for a couple of weeks because that was it. Now you just have to wait a few days because some movies come out on Wednesday and some on Friday and there are always news ones each week.

I know!! It's barely been two weeks, i can't believe it's already gone.

Re: GRRRRRRR!!!

(Anonymous) 2013-07-27 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you only have a two screen theater? I'm guessing they wanted one of the screens for The Wolverine and the other for whatever G rated piece of crap is entertaining the toddlers this summer.

If you are hitting the road, try and find a theater with D-Box, because while 3D might not be needed the D-Box takes it to a whole new level.

:( What the hell, that's insanely fast! I hope you find a way to see it in theaters! (No idea if driving two hours is worth it, and I probably wouldn't, but I hope it lives up to your expectations if you go through with it!)

I was thinking of waiting till it comes out on DVD but people here are making me reconsider...

Normally, i would never drive two hours to see a movie, but we do need to go back-to-school clothes shopping soon, so i might be able to.....

:)

It's worth it to travel extra to see it on the big screen :C It's just...really made for that and a lot of fun. Maybe you can car pool with some mates to see it?

Re: GRRRRRRR!!!

[personal profile] tabaqui 2013-07-28 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
HA! Ah ha.
I don't actually have anybody near by that cares about that movie. And the people nearby that i'd see a movie with wouldn't drive two hours to see one.

So - tl;dr - nope.

I once drove to another country to see a movie (I live in Western NY and drove the few hours to Canada), so I would say it is worth it. :) But I can understand why you might not want to make the drive for just a movie. It's sad that it went out of theaters so quickly! I can kinda understand it, though, as when I went to see it last weekend, there were only a dozen or so people in the theater.
