Yay, life?

I'm 99.8% sure I have IBS, and 97.5% sure that it's brought about by the eating addiction I'm 98.6% sure I have.

Aw, OP. :(

I have IBS too! And it sucks!

But guess what? It's made me start eating healthier. I've started cooking my own meals, and eating lots of fruit and vegetables.

I actually quit coffee, too! (Mainly because if I had a single cup of coffee, I would be writhing in agony, so I didn't exactly have a choice in the matter.)

There will be a TON of resources online, but there's all sorts of contradictory information. Your best bet is getting officially tested and diagnosed (colonoscopy & endoscopy will rule out any other nasties), and get official info from a doctor and a nutritionist. It is such a relief knowing what it is, and what to do about it.

Then there's a special diet you can go on - the FODMAP diet. And yeah, it's a bitch to get started, but it is a MILLION times better than trying to guess what you can and can't eat. When you have IBS-friendly food, you'll almost forget you have IBS. You will feel AMAZING once you're running your body on food that's kind to it! :)

So basically, IBS may not necessarily be a bad thing. It's forced me to make some good changes to my diet and lifestyle, which I wouldn't have been able to make before just with willpower.

Hopefully you'll be able to make those changes too! Best of luck to you, OP!

Also, w/r/t the eating addiction - it might be a good idea to get assistance with that as well as the IBS, if possible. Since it's important to know how to make the kind of long-term behavioural changes that you need to do.

I have an addictive behaviour myself, and I'm not gonna sugarcoat it - it's difficult to handle sometimes. But change is ABSOLUTELY possible, and I'd encourage you to go for it! :)

I have IBS. It sucks at times, but it is mostly manageable. I didn't do a wholescale change of my diet. I just figured out my triggers (the biggest are caffeine and dairy) and cut them out while adding more fiber.

Good luck dealing with it. And with the eating addiction.
