It could totally happen before or after the movie. Gipsy would be harder to do afterwards, though, since it blows up at the end, but I'm sure there are oodles of handwaves floating around.

I love that thought with Stacker. That actually seems like an elegant solution to "why doesn't he bring anything into the drift, etc", since iirc Stacker's copilot lost consciousness due to cancer problems or something. He might well have started dying, and you could make an easy case for the drift fucking up in the right way to get sapience from/to the Jaeger.

Also, that is angst-ridden and I love it.

I was thinking that since they're thinking about a sequel, both pilots seemed attached to Gypsy, and that it had been rebuilt before, that they would probably make a duplicate.

Did he really now? I was wondering how his copilot died and why he didn't bring anything in.

I do too. This needs to be a huge AU thing, I swear.
