Good evening, Godless fedora wearers! My non-denominational prayers/chants/tweets to some amalgamation of atheist-friendly beings have been answered! The skullfucked, pulverized corpse of indie gaming has secured a stunning victory today with the much-needed exit of one of its greatest zeroes! Phil Fish, accomplished racist hipster piece of shit, has discovered that we are all BIG MEANIES and in light of this situation, which is completely untenable to sensitive egomaniacs such as himself, he has announced the abrupt cancellation of the briefly-awaited sequel to his middling platform game Fez, as well as his departure from game development!

I (and therefore you) consider this a great boon to the independent gaming scene, which has been dominated by douchey white brown-haired hipster dudes with five o’clock shadows and a critical imbalance of self-awareness:self-importance. For far too long entities like Jason Rohrer, Jon Blow and Phil Fish (a trifecta hereby dubbed the Rohring Blowfish) have been the go-to hipsters for anything happening in the indie game scene, at the expense of people with humility in proportion with talent! Fish's childish tantrum in response to being teabagged by the unvarnished truth leaves us standing at the precipice of a crossroads, where the scale is at the tipping point. We can live in a blessed nation, or we can live in a place where the real life version of Fake Adam Orth designs our games and we press buttons for sadness.

I had no idea Fish was such a gigantic tosspot.

His actions against Marcus were so childish. He wasn't the greatest person in Indie Games: The Movie, but I felt bad for him as he poored his sweat and tears into Fez. Not anymore. Blow, I always knew was a little... off.

The dude is a massive manchild and a racist sack of shit. An egomaniac to boot. He's got this tendency to start an argument, write it off as him being a creative-minded free spirit, then has a meltdown when people tell him he's an asshole.

He basically trashed the entirety of the Japanese games industry (ironic given how much Fez makes references to stuff like Zelda and how much of the visual style is clearly ripping off Cave Story's) RIGHT IN FRONT of a Japanese developer who'd been nothing but polite to him. A whole bunch of people dumped on him on Twitter for it and he ragequit Twitter for a while. Then Fez, which was still unreleased at the time, won two awards at IGF (some of the judges are friends of his) and he got back on Twitter to say "suck my dick."

This latest tantrum is hilariously in character for him.

Having seen Marcus Beer's comments in the video that started all this I saw nothing in his entire rant that was at all untrue. Could he have said it more diplomatically? Sure, but what's the point? He's clearly just as sick as I am of the indie gaming scene being largely a platform for a bunch of egotistical hipster douchebags to get their brown-haired five o'clock shadow white boy faces in the media as much as possible. Phil Fish was an unprofessional manchild. Jon Blow is a potential serial killer who we're all vaguely fortunate to have pouring his energy into developing games and not, I dunno, practicing knives on cats, but it'd be nice if everyone stopped going to him for opinions on indie gaming. And Jason Rohrer is a fraud whose “games" rely on cheap emotional manipulation and player self-projection as opposed to having any depth, and his latest work is little more than a display of privileged white fear. It's time for indie games to go back to being about indie games and not about a few certain "personalities" who have dominated the headlines as much as they can.

I remember watching the movie about indie games and wishing he would kill himself. hate that douche.

Thing is, I'm not going to tell him to kill himself because that's more his thing. But I will tell him to get a shave and bag my groceries (I prefer paper.)

Man, this dominated my Twitter feed yesterday. What a nutjob. Was Fez even that good? I didn't play it. Was anyone really excited for the sequel? Is he expecting people to beg for him to change his mind? Cause it sure seems he likes his ego strokes and that he'll throw a tantrum if its not. That's just what I've seen in brief of the guy.

To be fair, Fez really was that good.

First anon: I've heard maybe one or two people say they like it, but everyone else seems 'meh' or never said much on it and I follow a buttload of gamers. Which made me think it wasnt that big of a deal in the end, lol.

That's pretty much how it goes with him.

Fish: "I HATE YOU ALL! WHY MUST YOU ALWAYS PICK ON ME! YOUR JEERS AND GAPES ARE TEARING ME DOWN EMOTIONALLY! THIS INDUSTRY IS FULL OF HATE AND WORTHLESS PEOPLE AND I'M LEAVING FOREVER."

After about a week he comes back like nothing happened. Bit like a cat that way. A cat with a shitty haircut.

Haha yeah, all that shit yesterday made me wonder if he'll unlock his Twitter and go on about Fez 2 like nothing happened. 'So, guys, we're cool, right? I didn't tell anyone to kill themselves last week, I have no idea what you're on about! :D'

Gotta love attention whores. What makes me laugh more is that people were comparing him to the likes of Keiji Inafune in terms of attitude. Wait, really?!?

Saying someone is the worst is overused hyperbole, but Phil Fish literally is the worst person in the video game industry. Well, was, assuming his twitter ragequit sticks.

The games industry can be incredibly volatile. He can either deal, or gtfo. Honestly I'm glad he chose the latter.

One of my professors showed the film on the last day of one of our game development classes. We all sat there aghast. None of us wanted to think of becoming like THEM. And four years for one game? Or was it five? Either way, Fez should have been perfect and clearly it wasn't.

What is he going to do now that he's left his "entire life" behind?

Wow, now I'm really upset I bought Fez during the Steam sale. :|

At least I didn't give him much money.

Yeah I refused to buy his game. I refused to even play it until I heard he'd quit. So I um, "got" a gog.com copy and installed it, played it for a while, and um... it's not that great. :D At all!

Given the positive reviews I've seen for it, it was really boring all things considered. Pretty graphics sure and the mechanics were cool, but you can't build an entire game around basic platforming with barely anything else. Not to mention that it's pretty frustrating how much backtracking and screwing around you have to do to get all the cubes. I got bored as soon as I realised that it was gonna be the whole game.

The art style is pretty much a wholesale knockoff of Cave Story, so no surprise there.

Absolutely love Cave Story! Suddenly seeing the similarities. Only Cave Story had much tighter controls.
