Caranthir gets lumped in with his immediately elder and younger brothers a lot, doesn't he? When in actuality, his activities were quite removed from them; he just sort of did his own thing until, alas, Doriath.

Nargothrondian politics in the latter days of Finrod's rule really fascinate me. It's the really I've succumbed to read Curufin/Finrod, even though Curufic in by far my least favorite Feanorian. In a fic attempting to place Celegorm and Curufin in a better light, I'd like to see their deeds against Finrod portrayed as weighing most heavily on them. Whatever else they did to the other Elves, they weren't family. Finrod was.

Good god, could I be any less articulate? As a Tolkien enthusiast, I ought to be stoned.

That, and he was, well... Finrod. They slaughtered his mother's people, left him on the Helcaraxë - and he still welcomed them in Nargothrond.

Honestly, Finrod is a little too good to true sometimes, even for a Tolkien character. At least he got his happy ending.

Well, yes... but I find it interesting that while clearly one of the nicest people around, he was still willing to associate with the, well, less nice. Which I guess may be part of this 'too good to be true' but still, a bit intriguing.
