Whatever else they did to the other Elves, they weren't family. Finrod was.
That, and he was, well... Finrod. They slaughtered his mother's people, left him on the Helcaraxë - and he still welcomed them in Nargothrond.

Honestly, Finrod is a little too good to true sometimes, even for a Tolkien character. At least he got his happy ending.

Well, yes... but I find it interesting that while clearly one of the nicest people around, he was still willing to associate with the, well, less nice. Which I guess may be part of this 'too good to be true' but still, a bit intriguing.
