IDK, that and I guess it reminds me of the super obsessed fans who send creepy love letters/art/fic to actors and show runners. I know this is tame by fandom standards and it's actor approved, but I still can't help but make the unconscious parallels.
I want to run up there, arms flailing, going "ssssh! dont encourage them!"

(Anonymous) 2013-07-30 03:03 am (UTC)(link)Super-obsessed fans are going to be there no matter what happens if you're famous, and the thing is, that includes male fans. Famous examples including the stalkers of Sarah Mclachlan and Eminem, but I can tell you from personal experience from cons that women like Marina Sirtis (Deanna Troi on Star Trek: TNG) and Gillian Anderson (Dana Scully from The X-Files) are treated terrifyingly by some of the male fans in the audience. And yet no one ever discourages them from putting on a show for their fans, regardless-- in fact, they're encouraged to do so.
So singling out squeeing fangirls for being basically completely innocuous while the person they're huge fans of is hamming it up on stage for exactly that reaction, even if there are "bad" fans in the mix...I don't know. I know you don't intend it this way, and I'm not even aiming this comment at you specifically, it's just that this reaction in general is just rubbing me the wrong way all over. :/

(Anonymous) 2013-07-30 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)Anyhow I think it is scary how people lose touch with reality over these actors, who are just working after all, and earning their living to pay the mortgage, kids school fees etc, just like normal people. It does bother me that some fans don't get that and break all sorts of boundaries being creepy over the actors. Problem is something like a convention can hardly identify or screen those people out.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-30 05:16 am (UTC)(link)I saw it as more Tom Hiddleston being a stage actor. He loves his character, he wanted to perform, the audience is perfect for it. I find it much creepier when average white dude actor types get screams when they take of their jackets...

I think my opinion got warped after the sheer number of gif sets that ended up flooding my dash attached with comments some nondescript as "I CAME" and others just... tmi.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-30 09:02 pm (UTC)(link)Still conventions are big money, so I reckon it's part of the deal, do a sci fi with a fandom, and you have all that stuff to contend with, but you get paid for it as well.
