Sorry guys, I didn't realize this was a popular opinion. I'm not the same OP from a couple of days ago.

Well now I just think you're cute.

It's okay, OP. Things like this happen.

The moon gleams cold and perfect, white as Carlos’ perfect teeth, though without his trademark hair. A single green cloud drifts past, obscuring its white perfection and bathing the town in a veridian haze. Welcome to Night Vale.

The City Counsel has announced that there will be no discussion of the weather anymore. For any reason. Ever. There is no weather. No rain, no snow, no blistering, blistering heat like the kind you feel should you step outside on the asphalt. It’s all a mysterious, city-wide, mass hallucination, like that time Sasquatch visited Kicky Licks, the local ice-cream parlor. We all know what happened with Sasquatch. Who was never there. Despite the fact that fifteen schoolchildren witnessed him ordering a double-scoop strawberry-mocha float. Despite the fact that Lurlene McMurty served said double-scoop strawberry-mocha float. Lurlene McMurty couldn’t stop talking about that and it took two visits from the black helicopters and a partial brain transplant before she learned her lesson.

So. Remember, citizens! THERE IS *NO* WEATHER. That cool freshness you feel on your face as it blows through the filmy curtains of your double-wide and caresses your face is no breeze, but in fact the malodorous breath of some loathsome beast that roams the Scrub Lands and Sand Wastes on appendages so hideous no mortal man could bear to behold them. Maybe they’re claws or something. Possibly tentacles. But there is NO WEATHER.

So in the future, when you need inoffensive topics of mundane conversation to have with your friends and co-workers because you have nothing interesting to say, remember that THERE IS NO WEATHER. Please confine yourself to other humdrum topics such as: A) What you had for lunch. B) The score from last night’s game, whatever sport you happen to follow. or C) The source of that mysterious, soul-torturing sound coming from the Dog Park. You know. The one the locals describe as sounding like a panicked sheep having its marrow extracted through its eyeball? Yeah, that one. Those are safe topics.

But not the weather. There is no weather. There is only the empty, barren void lit by no sun and shaded by no clouds, touched by no meteorological conditions caused by the interaction of wind, temperature, moistness, and pressure.

The moon’s still a safe topic though, folks! The City Counsel wishes you to know that they are still ALL FOR the moon! The moon that watches over us like a giant eye, lidless and unsleeping, all knowing, all seeing, penetrating you to the very moon. Gosh, that moon sure is romantic, isn’t it? I should give Carlos a call.

This has been a public service announcement from your City Counsel! Remember, don’t speak of the interaction of elements in the atmosphere outside, unless you want your flesh stripped from your very bones by mutated, rabid beetles. And let’s face it, nobody wants that! Especially not on a lovely night like this, when the weather is absolutely non-existent and the moon is glowing down with its DREAMY light.

Good night, listeners. Good night. Sleep tight. Don’t let the mutated, rabid beetles bite.

I've just heard one podcast and making my way through the rest but... Is the weather the thing where someone starts singing with a guitar or something?

Yeah. It's a song break. Which is fine, and some of the songs are nice, but... well, I explained my reasons for skipping them below.

Okay, I'm on podcast #6 and I've started skipping the weather too. And I also had a hearty laugh at the "anonymous" donation from Guatemala and the bus song.

Yeah, I've started doing that, too (I listened to a few of the song when I started the show). Part of it is that I just started listening, and I'm trying to get through all 28 episodes soon (I doubt I'll make it by the 1st when the new one will be out, but soon after would be nice), and since the weather isn't part of the story... I might go back and listen once I'm trough it all.

I loooooove the weather.

[Picture is the logo of the podcast "Welcome to Night Vale". It's a town at night with a purple sky, a crescent moon as part of a creepy eye, an electricity pole, a water tower, and a barn or house with an antenna.]

I usually skip the weather.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-31 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, me too. I like a couple of the songs (WAITING FOR THE BUS IN THE RAIN IN THE RAIN) but I'm not really into acoustic indie stuff, so I skip a lot of them after a few bars.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-31 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
I have a much bigger issue with the credits. I listen to Night Vale as a relaxation thing and the different voice in the credits and the HORRIBLE delivery of the proverb every time always grates on me. I should probably make a text file of all the song credits and stuff and edit them out because going in and out of relaxation is really annoying.

[personal profile] fenm 2013-07-31 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah... I get that they want to have credits, but surely they could have Cecil read them? As odd as Night Vale is, him going "fourth wall" to read the credits wouldn't really ruin the illusion, imo.

Slightly OT;

What is the song that plays in E27? That one was pretty cool.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-31 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
That's "Team the Best Team" by Doomtree, and I LOVE that shit. I've been playing it constantly since the episode came out, and the best thing is, since it's part of the podcast, it's free.

But...

WAITING FOR THE BUS IN THE RAIN IN THE RAIN

is one of my least favorite sorry but have fun

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, ditto. The songs are fine but not my thing and they don't really fit with the style of the podcast, IMO. It goes [awesome zany shit] followed by [mediocre indie tunes]... I don't get it, myself.
