I'm more surprised that you didn't get crap for simply having a "favorite Britney Spears song."

Wait, do you think Britney Spears became enormously popular without having anyone in the world willing to admit to liking her music?

Oh come on. Her music is hardly worse than anyone else's. For my part, I'm quite fond of her stuff and I'm not too fond of the genre in the first place.

Really, in the early 2000s? You're surprised someone didn't catch shit for liking Britney Spears when she was arguably at the peak of her fame? o.O

I guess it depends on the circles you ran in - I was a teenager at the height of her stardom, and admitting to anyone I knew that I liked a couple of her songs would've been social suicide. We all thought we were too cool for cheesy pop music (we weren't).

my school was the opposite. if you didn't love britney or christina, you were about as uncool as they came.

don't even get me started on backstreet boys vs nsync. :O

hell, when I went to Spring Fling my junior/senior year of college, we had the DJ playing "Toxic" [I remember because I had to leave the party early since it was giving me such a bad headache]
