I blame Rob Liefeld, which is a shame because Liefeld is actually a really fun artist because of his rage faces and truly impossible bodies for both genders (and all species.) Lots of artists have come along since with more refined versions of this but that's what makes them boring.

Also, why why why aren't you reading OLD comics? Go look for the Marvel Essentials from the Silver Age. It's fun reading
