Here's a bigger secret: I actually think it might be better than seasons 1-3 in some ways.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-31 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh, elaborate!

Seasons 1-3 had more laughs and the laughs were easier, but I actually think the writing for season 4 was pretty brilliant. I loved the way that various stories and jokes overlapped and recalled and everything was so intricately plotted. I've rewatched season 4 twice since the first time I marathoned the season when it was released and it gets better and better each time I watch it.

I sort of agree. I mean, the first three seasons were awesome as well but the writing for S4 was brilliant. The way everything fit together was amazing.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
It maybe a bigger secret but it's not very well kept is it. Might as well shout it from rooftops.

HEY EVERYONE FAUXKAREN THINKS ARRESTED SEASON 4 IS BETTER THAN 1 AND 3!

I haven't finished season four and really have no desire to. I read an interview with Will Arnett, where he said like he felt the show HAD to go dark to keep up with today's shows, and I just don't buy it. It's like, what shows are you watching, Will?

(Anonymous) 2013-07-31 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreed. They waited too long to bring it back and forgot how to make the show people loved.

(Anonymous) 2013-07-31 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like it was a victim of its own experimental style. I liked it, but I kind of wish it wasn't constantly retreading content...

(Anonymous) 2013-07-31 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely had a different tone. I'm still not sure if I liked it or not.

It's ok, you're allowed to be wrong sometimes.

[Picture is the cast of the TV/Internet show "Arrested Development". From left to right: A man with light olive skin, short dark hair combed to the side wearing a dark suit and standing confidently with his arms apart, holding an object in one hand. Next to him, a man with a balding head, pale skin, eyeglasses, a white purple sweater, dark blue shorts, tennis shoes and white and blue socks. He is standing straight with a hook instead of a hand half-raised up while he smiles with his mouth wide-open, almost mocking the viewer. Next to him a woman with wavy medium-length dark hair, light olive skin, a blue denim jacket, and tight wine-red pants while she scows at the viewer, with both hands raised and held together in front of her. Next to her a man with pale skin and fluffy short red-blond hair, wearing a dark blue polo shirt and khaki pants, he looks sort of calm and inoffensive. Next to him is a man with light olive skin wearing dark blue polo shirt and dark brown pants, while he has his arms crossed and looks between aghast and disappointed at the viewer. Next to him a balding man with light skin wearing eyeglasses, a red and white striped shirt, a brown jacket and brown pants while he presses a finger to his mouth and looks up thoughtfully. Next to him a woman with short brown hair almost reaching her skin, light olive skin and wearing a red suit jacket and skirt with a white and black dotted shirt, pantyhose and dark high-heeled shoes, standing confidently and twister her lower body to her side to the viewer with her upper body facing forwards, I think she is holding a wine glass. Next to her is a man with pale skin and balding white hair wearing a dark suit with a white shirt and a red tie while he extends his arms to the sides with the palms facing the viewer in a "I don't know what went wrong, don't ask me" expression. And finally, a woman with light olive skin, blonde hair either short or pulled back wearing a short-sleeved black dress reaching her thighs and dark high-heeled shoes, holding a cigarette between her fingers and making a sort of cocky curtsy at the viewer.]

I thought season 4 sucked.

Also, character names/relations left-to-right:

G.O.B. (George Oscar Bluth), Buster Bluth, Maeby Fünke, George Michael Bluth, Michael Bluth, Tobias Fünke, Lucille Bluth, George Bluth, and Lindsay Fünke.

GOB, Buster, Michael, and Lindsay are siblings. Lucille and George are their parents. Lindsay is married to Tobias and Maeby is their daughter. George Michael is Michael's son.

Oh, thank you so much! Do you mind if I add this on page 2?

I watched season 4 right after I marathoned seasons 1-3. You can differently tell the tone difference, but I still liked it.

I thought having the stories weave together as they did, was interesting. I would have liked more episodes surrounding Buster and Lucille tho. I also hope next season has less George Sr. He's a good side character, but I only really liked his second episode.

For me, I liked watching the Bluth family spiral downwards. It caused some good comedic moments and touching moments (especially GOBs.)

I thought the show already started falling apart in S3 tbh.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
same. that "mentally retarded female" stuff was just cringe inducing.

I wasn't prepared for how dark season 4 was. Once I'm in a different emotional place, I may try watching it again.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Try being someone who doesn't like this show at all. You're committing nerd heresy, comedy heresy, TV heresy, and you basically just suck, apparently, because "Arrested Development is the funniest show every created and if you don't like it you're just dumb or don't get it".

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 04:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Ugh, I'm with you there. Everyone hail this show like "OMG EVERYONE SHOULD BE WATCHING IT" but honestly... I just don't find it very funny or interesting.

I made several attempts, but the emphasis on how Tobias and Lindsay just don't give a shit about their daughter at all (as opposed to the original seasons, where they wanted to connect with her but were clueless) eventually got to me and made me stop.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 07:26 am (UTC)(link)
I liked it and will probably like it more on a rewatch, but man, everyone was a high-octane asshole here. Michael wasn't perfect before, but my god how far he has fallen.

I also think part of the show's strength was the whole family's interactions, so the format they used in season 4 hurt it. They had a lot of limitations that necessitated that, but still.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 08:45 am (UTC)(link)
It definitely seemed like someone new was writing the characters, someone who didn't understand the difference between 'self-centered, lazy, ridiculous people it's fun to laugh at' and 'fucking awful people you wish would all go to prison'.

The whole family has always had questionable morality and done some really wrong shit in the earlier seasons, but they were all just wretched people this time around. Even Oscar was a shit, how does that happen? They had Buster unknowingly killing people. That's not funny, it's sad.

And I had to turn it off multiple times whenever it was dealing with Tobias and that poor addict, I wanted to hit him in the face with a brick.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 02:54 pm (UTC)(link)
lol, not really a secret. Loads of people share this opinion. :|
