Last week I wasted an absurd amount of my life reading this gargantuan infodump about the history of J2 fandom. I spent a lot of time scrolling past pics and vids but it was fascinating to watch the tinhats get steadily more paranoid and detached from reality. If you have fandom TWS and time to burn you might be similarly entertained.

I'm creeped out. But I still had to read some.

They could have been sort of cute if not for all the creepy, creepy focus. Jesus, what I read just made me sad. WTF.

I'm not even sure which is creepier, the stalking for truth and justice or the absurd levels of cognitive bias (two male actors hugging at a promotional media event = REAL LOVE, a guy hugging his wife in the street = A CUNNING, LOW PRETENCE STAGED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE MEDIA.) I did find it pretty interesting to see how tinhatting and the attendant paranoia develops though? And how easily gullible tinhats can be steered by fake 'ITK' socks.

I just HATE that is sounds like collecting EVIDENCE. The ending periods to THE EVIDENCE are the worst, I just read, 'and that's when another ring appeared on his left hand', or something like that. It's so STAGE-Y it's even more disgusting.

I don't know them really well, but the Jensen guy looks dead inside in most of the pictures... is that his standard face? The other guy looks like he's making such an effort though.

THAT IS THE BEST PART, IT EXPLAINS EXACTLY WHY. Although to me the reasons why someone might ship it are counter to tinhatting, not conducive of it - ffs this is mostly a list of times they've joked at cons about how gay they aren't together.

Oh god why am I even trying to justify all the life I wasted reading this thing.

I finished the intro. Holy shit, I feel like this is going to be intense. I stayed so far away from the J2 side of fandom... I feel like this is going to be an eye opener.

i just started reading it, and the way it's written is so SOLEMN and SUPER SERIOUS like "we're witnessing history here, gentlemen"

fucking hell, it's just FANDOM, not an account of the Hindenburg! these people vastly overestimate their importance.

how do you even get to that point, when you're so detached from reality? JFC.

and then i just remembered the poor actors involved in this creepy madness, and then they started talking about "LGBT issues" like they're some kind of allies for justice, and i got angry.

their stupid shipping has nothing to do with real-world issues that actual LGBT people face. ugh.

They are really very silly people.

Yeah. One thing that really beats me about tinhat shipping is that it never seems to happen to actually gay actors. I remember Zacharay Quinto's fans digging up (actual, eg. from deleted web profiles) evidence that he was gay before he came out, but I can't think of any tinhat ships that were ever real, and I figure it might be because it tends to be straight male friends who perform the kind of behaviours (eg. faux-gay jokes) that tinhats are into. So what they are stupidly creepily obsessively objectifying is straight white men. It is the least issue-having thing.

Wow, that was uncomfortable to flip through. I think I'm gonna go back to the more solid side of reality.
