I like his new stuff better than the old; there's more of him in them, they're basically video-format pop culture editorials and I read such online a lot quite often. I never watched Demo Reel because I just wasn't that big of a fan.

It's difficult, though, because the whole fandom for the site is kind of built on that kind of democratic relationship between the fans and the audience. We could all review stuff for our webcams and edit the reviews together, it's just that some of us finally decided to take that up as a hobby or a semi-oft job that pays a little. But there's still that "home-spun" quality to it all, and we as fans probably aren't as picky as we would be if these web series were on TV, produced with some actual money behind them.

Then one guy wants to do something more ambitious and the fans are pretty quick to judge. Or maybe Demo Reel was unpolished. Or maybe it just wasn't as good as one could've hoped (or maybe the fact that his own web series had never pushed Doug much in terms of his writing talent so it turned out he wasn't that great a writer). Whatever it is, it failed. I feel bad for him, because it was obviously a risky venture he wanted to make happen and it didn't quite work out.
