Some people face their fear head on. Some people avoid their fear entirely. Some people... transmute it.

I call this the Riddikulus coping mechanism.

Honestly, I think that makes it creepier. Like, gimme my teddy bear I'm gonna have nightmares for forever, that kinda creepy. How do you look at that and think its a kawaii pretty boy?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Seriously, that is a straight up abomination.

Maybe, by making it a kawaii pretty boy, it becomes less scary to the person? (I think OP's saying they're less scary as kawaii pretty boys, and the transcription anon said it's less horrifying with the anime eyes.) It doesn't work that way for me. I had that picture come up as a screamer a year and a half ago and thinking about it now still freaks me out to the point where I might actually have a seizure.

I dunno about the kawaii pretty boy stuff* but I often find very scary things to me cute. So I will be scared shitless and then ten minutes later I will want a stuffed toy version of it because it's adorable. Don't get me wrong, still will scare the shit out of me. I... just think scary things are cute, I guess. Slenderman, for me, is a great example. I find him very, very frightening. I also want to give him a hug. It's a conflict I just don't care to work out because I'm too lazy.

*I honestly know nothing about it.

ok, what is a creepypasta? I've seen it a bunch of times and have no clue what it is

It morphed from copypasta (copy/paste). When people would just repost stories, it became copypasta. Creepypasta is copypasta that is scary. So scary stories that originated online, usually from 4chan, reddit or other community sites.

That is one fucked up background image. I'm pretty sure that's going to haunt my nightmares.

I was on Omegle talking about the mating habits of turtles (well, the other person was, anyway) when I was sent a link to "confirm" some of the stuff he was saying. Instead, it was that face, flashing, with an electronic alarm sounding, and I couldn't even cover the screen because I needed to see to click the pop-up to close it. I had just enough time to turn my computer off before having a seizure from the sudden flood of adrenaline.

People are complete pricks on the internet.

Oh dude, I'm so sorry that happened to you. There are some serious dicks on the Internet and its not exactly easy to avoid stuff like that either.

I love creepypasta, but I honestly find "prettified" fanworks of creepypasta characters amusing.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 11:58 pm (UTC)(link)
misapplied hormonal-fueled fancies?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-01 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
would blocking every tumblr (or whichever site this is) person who posts/reblogs that stuff keep them from appearing in your searches?

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-02 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the memetic horror picture/creepypasta picture "Jeff the Killer" (which is a horrifying humanoid face or mask with white skin, red lips and a humongous red-lipped smile and sunken but wide open eyes staring unnervingly at the viewer), but someone pasted on huge violet anime-style eyes over the original eyes. It is now slightly less horrifying.]

I hate how any even remotely scary creepypasta gets turned into kawaii bullshit anime boys. What the hell was wrong with them before? Why does EVERYTHING even a teeny bit scary HAVE to be made into Out Of Character prettyboys? What's even the point of using the characters if you're just going to change them so drastically?

I know it shouldn't bother me, but it's near impossible to search the creepypasta tag without coming across that sort of stuff. All I want is scary stories, is that too much to ask?

Sorry I'm so angry sounding, I'm just stressed out a bit.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
...slightly less more horrifying...

FTFY transcriptanon, thumbs-up for all your hard work though!

I hope Slendie-senpai will notice me today~

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh fuck, I hate it when they call him 'Slendie', not just the fanteens. I have no problem with whoobiefication. Instead I hate that everything needs a cute nickname :P

That sucks that your scary stuff is ruined for you. It's just a thing people do. Maybe you can find a way to block that stuff? I wish you luck.

Is this something that happens enough to be a thing? I feel like I've seen it once or twice, but I wouldn't say it's common.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
Dude, what are you doing in the tumblr tag looking for creepypasta? It's tumblr. They're known for kawaii'ing it up or making serious things ridiculous. I'm assuming this is tumblr you're finding this stuff, because there's like no other place this would be.

If you want creepypasta, stick to creepypasta.com, ontdcreepy on LJ, the creepypasta wiki, or /no sleep on reddit. There are tons of creepy stories there to satisfy your need for creepy.

Also this is a random side rant that you can feel free to ignore, but I never got how people could find Jeff the Killer or Slenderman creepy. I always thought they were absurd. I tried reading a Jeff the Killer story once, and it read like a thirteen-year old wrote it.
