It's just a fun movie to watch with great music, great CGI, great world building, some well rounded characters (apparently, they didn't click with me), it's pretty artistic, looks quite nice in 3D and oh it was just sheer fun to watch.

That's why people are gushing about it. It's pure, unadulterated fun. It doesn't need to be original or special or oh so deep or have a fancy twist to be a good movie or to get people to like it. Not everything is about originality.

...and yeah the giant robots punching monsters was pretty goddamn awesome. Damn they executed all that SHEER SIZE so damn well...and the sounds. It was a nice adrenaline rush
