The fact that you specified US white males leads me to suspect you are a bitter Cumbersnatch stan who hates the fact that not everyone finds her obsession attractive.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't the guy playing Captain America a Brit?

Cumberotter isn't that great looking, he is very pale for an Asian for a start.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Chris Evans? Nope, pretty sure he's American.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Nah, he's a presenter on BBC Radio. Owns lots of cars, paints them all white. Scrubs up nice for the movies though.

i love you anon

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
different anon: ha ha. No, Superman and Batman are Brits, not Cap.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
That explains why Superman and batman are competent and charismatic icons, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Maybe, but I could look at Robert Downey Jr all day. Especially if he's on something where he sings.

It also explains why they're in such awful movies. :)

Now you are not even trying.

Come on. At least be entertaining.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
You might be thinking of the guy playing Superman.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Can you imagine the wank if Captain America was played by someone not American? I'd die of laughter, probably.

But, to answer your question, Chris Evans is very American. He was born in Massachusetts.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
His movie would have done better internationally if it had been played by a non-american. I'm thinking someone French would have been best.

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-08-02 11:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Is this because of the thing that happened in the comics when Cap insulted French people?

Yeah, because they make a movie called "Captain America" for non-Americans.

But you know, they probably could have added some China-only scenes like they did for Iron Man 3. That might have helped.

Captain America is played by a Bostonian. You should hear him in interviews. When he gets excited, the accent comes on thick. It's adorable.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
So the champion of America is a steroid abuser or a Woman from a Mythical matriarchal society. That explains so much.

Either that or some youth-obsessed brat. RDJ, par examplar, was baby-gorgeous when he was younger but now he's so damn handsome and sexy. Age has improved him. Doesn't work for everyone.

But what do I know, I happen to like faces, both male and female, that look lived-in, that one can see a life there. There are lots of prettyboys and prettygirls that come to Hollywood everyday and most are interchangable.

But a good lived-in face has character and distinction. You're not going to mistake RDJ for another actor. Nor say, Alan Rickman.

Go ahead, OP, and hate on the older people. More for those of us with good taste.

+1

Great point about character and differentiability. There's so much in the way of cookie-cutter good looks that actors & actresses are supposed to adhere to that it's really ridiculous. Unfortunately, so much of Hollywood thinks everyone thinks like OP and there can only be one definition of attractive which is complete idiocy.

I'd love to see more of RDJ and all of those actors & actresses who don't fit that same-old traditional Hollywood 'look' we've seen over and over. It makes things more interesting. And I also think it'd do wonders for the body-image problems people have in this country if there was more variety in movies and TV in terms of ages, looks, and body-types.

I agree with you. Example: I find Jared Padalecki (Supernatural) far more interesting to look at than his bland pretty-boy co-star Jensen Ackles for that exact reason.

I was thinking this too. Half the actors that the internet obsesses over are pasty-ass Brits.
