Now I'm genuinely curious (troll or not), how one would get the impression that people "force" themselves to find certain actors attractive? I get the whole "people like stuff i don't like HOW THIS HAPPEN THEY WRONG" thing, but yours is a leap of logic I'm intrigued by.

Er, well...this isn't quite the same but I've tried to 'force' myself to be attracted to someone I dated* and basically? I lied, said I was really attracted to them, did my best to act like I was because I was trying to convince myself I was as much as anything else.

*long story, basically I was really, really trying to be straight and not disappoint certain family members before going 'fuck it' and not bothering anymore

That's rough and I'm sorry you felt you had to do that. :(

I can understand that, but I doubt OP meant that they feel like the girls that are into famous male actors are secretly gay. I mean they could and it would make the secret at least 10% funnier, but I doubt it.

I didn't mean that they would [and, admittedly, the idea that could mean that actually makes me cringe so hard because it's actually not that uncommon here [I live in a place that um...tends to frown on homosexuality, to put it politely], but that it was people convincing themselves that they were attracted to those men. If I had to make a guess, convincing themselves of it because they were 'told' that that's the type of guy they were supposed to be attracted to.

Yeah, that was my thing too.

Is it like me saying I had a crush on this boy in class in 6th grade because everyone else was crushing and I didn't have one, so I just lied? Or eh?

Oh, man. I used to pretend to be into whoever was the ~thing~ at the time.

These days I'm just like "ehh that guys hot, but what about that horrifying demon-monster over there? awww yeah 10/10 would bang"

(Anonymous) 2013-08-02 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry, tl;dr ahead.

I have no clue about OPs reasoning for wording it like that, but I tried to force myself to find hunky guys attractive for years.
I thought something must be wrong with me for not liking men with visible muscle mass because every girl was swooning over hunks. To be fair, they swooned over feminine guys as well, but in a different way.

I was under the impression that as soon as a guy had muscles I should be aroused by his body and implied strenght. But in fact I was afraid. I've always been afraid of buff guys because more physical strenght meant more physical power to overpower me or beat me up.
Also, I just couldn't warm up to the look. Very defined muscles in a guy have always looked hard and uncozy to me.

Sometimes I even cried at night because I wasn't able to find attractive what apparently every girl should be attracted to and I thought it was because I was 'broken' somehow.

Nowadays I still don't find hunks physically attractive. But I also stopped trying to like them ;)

Guh. Too much muscle screams too try-hard to me. It makes me go "ECKH".

Guys, I think it's great that you all feel like sharing your stories with me, but I wasn't trying to find reasons why people would force themselves to do stuff, I was trying to find out what reasoning the OP would come up with to explain their "feeling" that everyobe was doing it.

Like seriously, I was trying to get some trolly comment, not serious lifestory moments, haha.
