I think I suck at Hollywood and anything race-related thereof. I don't give a shit what anybody looks like, at best it's a secondary concern for me; I just want good actors and a good plot.

With that being said I adore Keanu Reeves and was unaware of this controversy. I think people just bitch to bitch; they're never happy. Somebody is always going to find a reason to bitch about because things aren't exactly the way they want them.

I think there's a difference between wanting the best actor for a role and intentional white-washing, and in my opinion, the biggest problem with Hollywood (or big name movie companies/directors not necessarily US-based) is that they'd rather sacrifice accuracy by not casting an unknown/less popular actor who suits a role better and instead casting the current popular man/woman of the moment (who are most likely white or at least white-passing) and almost guarantee themselves a money maker.

That's not to say you can't enjoy blockbuster films or popular media, you just have to acknowledge that the issues are there and do what you can to make people more aware of it too. Ignoring them isn't going to make them go away, in fact it'll probably make them worse.

It's good that people are catching media attention with films like The Last Airbender, etc, because a lot of people who consume popular media really have no clue that characters are being white-washed for the sake of money making.
