Is Thramsay as a ship pretty much a TV-verse thing?

I've been in fandom too long to be surprised by most things, but I genuinely can't fathom how anyone could come away from Reek's chapters in DWD feeling anything other than horrified and sickened.

I've seen fanart that supposedly predates the TV show, so no.

Also kinks are hard to explain sometimes. I guess you don't decide what turns you on.

True, but to cry and claim that you're an oppressed minority when people find your creepy kinks to be creepy is ridiculous.

There's been Thramsay shipping ever since ADWD.

Although in all fairness a lot of it is tongue and cheek or presenting it as something messed up/abusive. I don't think anyone thinks that they *love* each other in a romantic sense but rather view Ramsay and Theon as having a sick co-dependent relationship with one another.

I thought those scenes in the show were supposed to be pretty horrifying and sickening as well.

Maybe I've been 'lucky' but all the Thramsay stuff I've come across had me thinking that the fic was supposed to be horrifying and sickening. (I mean that I've never come across a fic where Thramsay was portrayed as anything but non-con, horrible for Theon, and at most Stockholm-Syndromey in the way that canon actually is at some points.)

So non-con, torture, whump, etc. - not 'romantic' Theon/Ramsay or woobie!Ramsay or things of that sort, thank R'hllor. At least in my experience.

Actually every single Thramsay shipper I know is a book fan. And they don't 'ship' it in the sense that they think these two are cute together, but they fully acknowledge how horrifying and fucked up it is. They just find it interesting.

Horrified and sickened = fascinating for some. Takes all types. Does nothing for me, I rolled my eyes and looked away at the tv scenes, and I often get turned on by torture stuff.
