while i think people shouldn't be told "go kill yourself, freak" over their kinks (especially since they're not "acting" on this sort of thing, just enjoying it in fandom), I also think people shouldn't expect everyone to never be upset/squicked/grossed out/freaked out by the really fucked up bullshit... kinks are kinks BECAUSE they're not the norm, BECAUSE they're not for everyone. And it's okay that people have (frequently very fucking legitimate) problems with these kinks. Sorry, but that's life. Not everyone HAS to find your shit okay.

I don't want everyone to approve it, you fuckwit. I don't even want to be loud about it, just not incredibly quiet and careful to hide that I have kinks at all. I just don't want people drawing prejudiced, harmful, IRL consequence conclusions about my personality and real life behaviour. This is why I've been incredibly closeted and uptight and ashamed since I was 6. Sexual orientation discovery was secondary to the fact that I am 100% kinky.

It's not about approval, as most who ship problematic ships are completely aware that they're fucked up and not everyone's cup of tea. But when you actively bash/shame/scare these shippers (who are literally hurting no one and are simply enjoying the things they like) out of your fandom because of a kink/ship you don't like, then you're an asshole, plain and simple. The GOT fandom in particular seems to do this quite often and it's pretty disappointing.

The ASOIAF/GOT fandom is officially the most judgemental fandom I've ever been in, which is just weird considering the source material. Especially since the creepy shippers in this fandom are generally so much more friendly, polite and sane than many people who ship the popular, 'accepted' pairings.

I think that's because it's so popular while being so dark. It's attracted a lot of fans who normally wouldn't be into something with this kind of subject matter but got sucked in anyway, and they're passive-aggressive about their own discomfort. While the creepers have no illusions about what they're hanging around for, so they're less abrasive.
