Ah, the reason I don't play MMOs and fear multiplayer like a plague. How sad to see it here on F!S.

To be fair, LoL is widely known as the pit of despair among games. I'm a pretty big MMO player and I have never experienced the vile stuff I did in LoL anywhere else.

don't get into other games in LoL's genre then. DoTA 2 is okay, but HoN and the original DoTA mod for Warcraft 3 are fucking cesspits, miles worse than LoL.

At least LoL's has a team of people policing and banning people, the original DoTA has no such thing and HoN's fucking *creators* encourage that shit. The lead dev of the game frequently calls people 'niggers' when playing.

Oh, I bet there are different levels of horribleness. I believe you when you say LoL is one of the worst. It's just that those bad things make my ability to try even tame ones really difficult because I'm just overcome with anxiety and it's an overall bad experience. There's a reason I don't play WoW even though my brother really wanted me to play with him and I have another friend who does now. It's just far too stressful for me.

The thing about Wow that is nice is that they have a variety of servers to play on unlike LoL as far as I know. If you're looking for something more low key and less stressful, looks towards the RP servers. I've been playing WoW since 2005 on and off on a RP server, and I can only think of one incident where another player attacked me about my gender (It was in a battleground and he was from another server). The worst that happens is people will try and flirt when they find out you're a girl, but none of the flirting has been over the top to be offense in my experience. Normally its a sentence or two and then they'll stop.

I'd recommend avoiding the high population PvP servers however. I've seen some pretty chauvinistic stuff go down there.

I know about the different WoW servers. My brother even used to play on an RP one. I've even played it myself. It's just come to the point that because I'm so afraid of being harassed for either being a girl or because of how poorly I perform that I put too much pressure on myself and end up not having fun, even if no one has said anything.

I've just come to expect the worst so much that even when it's not there I can't handle it anymore because I'm still so hyper-vigilant and self-critiquing. I figure I'll just stay away from MMOs for the time being.

I play two MMO's regularly and your fear is pretty well founded tbh, I have a fairly thick skin when it comes to douchebags in-game so I can shrug it off but I know that not everyone can(or should) be expected to.

Yeah, I can take it in places I feel relatively grounded, like here on F!S or tumblr, but in MMOs I lack the ability to shrug it off and still have fun. I just become a nervous wreck instead. I wish I could shrug it off like you! *flails*

Yeah I totally understand why it wouldn't be any fun to play a game when most of the player-base makes you extremely uncomfortable, it's never nice being exposed to it(and I don't blame you for staying away). On the flip side I am useless at handling people being shitty to me irl.

It's hearing stuff like this secret that make me hesitant to ever *try* MMOs, and I'm pretty sure I'd there are ones out there I'd actually like (y'know, once I get a computer which could run them...)

I suppose there is the argument that one 'shouldn't take it personally' but a) I probably would, and b) why *should* I put up with people being arseholes?

Aw, I'm sorry dude.

Your best bet is to find a mild server of whatever you're into and to bring a group of friends with you and to almost play exclusively with them. That's how I got through playing RO.
