Eh, I disagree. Sometimes there is zero reason to put yourself through that just to no "let the bullies win". For the most part they're going to keep saying what they're saying and the only one it'll impact is the one who gets hurt.

As for what I did (not OP), I reported everyone who was verbally abusive like that before I quit and uninstalled.

If it were me I wouldn't care. It's not worth the harassment. Sure, have pride and fight back when it's something winnable.

But in MMOs where people on the casual stuff are telling you to kill yourself? There's no shame in getting out for your own well-being.

This is, unfortunately, just what you get when you play games with males. You can, ofcourse, try to toughen up, let the boys bully you until they have their little 'No Girls Allowed' club, or take a third option: I don't know this game at all, but is there some way you can only play with other women? Like a league made and run by other women? If such a thing is possible in this game, I expect someone is already doing it, try googling it and see?

The only time I ever truly enjoyed playing an MMORPG was when I joined an all-women group. It was super fun. Some people can still be mean in other ways, but you're a lot less likely to get the grosser responses.

I'm biologically male, though I'm typically assumed female on the Internet. I could probably fake my way into a females-only group, but the concept of separating men from women revolves around the idea that men and women are and have to be certain things, and I refuse to help further that even passively with my participation.

I'm a woman and I've been playing LoL since season one. I know very well how ignorant the guys in GD can be towards female LoL players, especially if you cosplay as one of the characters and they find you to be "ugly". They are extremely toxic and hateful.

Sadly, women can be just as bad, if not worse at bullying. It may not be as apparent in the realm of video games, but an all-female group is no guarantee that it could be an escape from abuse.

Hit tab and click the word balloon next to people's scores whenever they insult you, then report them after the match. If they're insulting you, they weren't gonna communicate that well anyway, and you can still see their pings.

Pretty sure the playerbase is the reason 99.9% of people uninstalled. As soon as the kill yourself/cunt/faggot/etc started flying I said nope. Nope nope nope.

Even though yeah, the game is pretty fun and well designed.

I think this game is well-designed and fun. I'm a terrible player, but I tried my best, and I was integral to a couple of wins.

When people started telling me I was stupid and should kill myself, I thought of finding more casual matches to play in. Then I realized I was already in casual matches.

The playerbase is the sole reason I uninstalled.

Me too. The playerbase is awful and I hate how overly serious the game and community, including the staff, is about winning and being ~Valuable to Your Team~. Like how your account gets an infraction if you disconnect, even just for a little bit unintentionally. As we all know, losing one round of a video game is one of the worst things that can happen to a person.

I didn't even get that much bitch/faggot/kill yourself stuff, I just can't enjoy a game where everyone is so deathly serious and angry over it all the time.

I hope this doesn't come off as weird, but i knew my bf had a similar experience so I asked him how he coped with it. His advice was to mute people at the first sign of being an asshole, don't wait until they upset you, and don't worry about that hurting the team. That person is hurting the team. The point is to have fun and you shouldn't feel guilty. Message people who seem nice in games and queue up for other games together. Try and find groups/leagues/whatever of mature gamers. Don't worry if you're not actually older, because it's more about avoiding what your experiencing than age anyway. Um and he says switch to DOTA2 but he's biased heh

I work as a moderator for a "children's" MMO and it is terrifying the language these kids use toward each other. Comments to go kill yourself, get raped, or worse (and yes trust me there is worse) are an every 10th comment thing.

And for those who think this is just a "male" sided thing are so wrong, the girl players are the worst.

A dude here playing LoL as well. The only sane way to play it for me seems with my friend (who's a woman). Muting people is not really the best idea for me as then they complain that YOU DID NOT TELL ME SOMEONE IS MISSING!, YOU DID NOT REFRAIN FROM ATTACKING X PLAYER!, etc. Some part of this game relay on team speak which is the crap part if you only get arses on your team. Didn't see any straight-forward gender related violence while playing with the friend mentioned before but she was insulted for ... being the best player of the team (yup, that was bizzare, she's an ace at this game). However, there's a long thread on the forums about other players being hostile to women. On Tumblr, there's a large group of haters of a random all-female professional guild.

LoL is popular within a very young fanbase and most of them just repeat what their peers do. Another friend, a guy, had been chucked out by his school friend form a guild for being too gentle. It's a place where all cliques condense their violence and ran along with it.

I play SWtoR as well and private groups are grand BUT the general chat is totally horrid (seen hate on feminism, vegetarianism, hell anything really). Though, there's no loss in muting it.

You and many, many of the other LoL players I know. That's why they keep trying to make a moderation system that will stop it, or at least curb it somewhat - they're bleeding players (and thus potential customers) due to this behaviour.

This reason right here is why I stay away from multiplayer. I'm not the best gamer in the world (far from) but fuck if I want to spend my free time with some asshole acting like this shit is there job or something. I'm there to have fun, not listen to your God-complex.

...and yes, I'm bitter about that shit. lol
