Keanu Reeves has a pale enough skintone to pass as "white" to me. In fact, I was a bit surprised when I found out he had a bit of Chinese somewhere in his ancestry, and then looked at the rest of his racial background... and he's so mixed that whatever Chinese he has is well-buried under all the various Caucasian types he's also got.

But while he never struck me as "obviously mixed", nither would I wish to deny him any of his varied background either.

I just think people get too attached to the idea that "White" = Caucasian. Caucasian people come in a huge variety of tones, not just Nordic-pale white.

You'd be surprised how pale East Asians can get. I'd say there's a slight difference in the undertones of the skin - your typical white person has pink undertones, and East Asian would have gold/yellow undertones, but at least in Japan, fair skin seems to be really valued and many girls especially had skin far more white than mine.

That being said, I suppose that comes from actively avoiding the sun, but I think to some extent it really depends on the person, just like how we can have white people with fairly dark skin, too.

The big difference between Asian and Caucasian and African people is more in facial structure than skintones. There are Caucasian people in places like India and parts of northwestern Africa who are very very dark, dark enough to call "black", but have all the Caucasian structure.

I find it interesting that you say the Chinese is "well-buried" because I've always thought he looked part Asian. Especially in the eyes and cheekbones and the texture of his hair.

Once I knew, I could see things like that, but when I didn't, they didn't strike me as anything outside the caucasian I took him for.
