While I don't think it's as great as people hyped it up to be I do think there were a few funny moments, and I support the movie in general because we need more female driven comedies that aren't just fluffy romance.

Like I'd prefer female comedies that are much funnier then Bridesmaids, but at this point we just need to door opened because Hollywood has gotten really hesitant about doing movies that aren't driven by a white cis male lead.

I legit couldn't even get through most of it.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 07:49 pm (UTC)(link)
It looked awful just in trailers. I stayed the fuck away and I'm glad I did.

This is Bridesmaids? The only thing I know about it is several of my coworkers loved it and thought it was hilarious. I was thinking maybe I should give it a look at some point. I... guess not?

Since when? Since always! To quote Mel Brooks: "Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you fall down an open sewer hole and die." Also, Jon Hamm was hilarious.

The entire movie is repugnant to me just for the food poisoning scene. It's not funny, it made me feel sick (I had to leave the room and just hearing it was awful), and it was just so unnecessary. The rest of the film doesn't make up for it, IMO.

I saw it with my bff, who I was her maid of honour for, and we liked it. It was a normal comedy, except with chicks instead of dicks.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
I loved this movie, but I went in not knowing what to expect after the internet thought it was the funniest thing ever and my friend told me it was the stupidest thing ever but honestly, I was more pleased that it wasn't just a female version of the Hangover.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 08:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought Bridesmaids was fine precisely because (at least to me) it seemed aware of its darkness. It's a comedy centered around a deeply depressing story, and it acknowledged that.

Bachelorette, on the other hand, was genuinely one of the most awful, horrifying, unfunny, depressing movies I've ever seen. If you want to talk about watching people's lives go from bad to worse... There was not a single part of that movie that I thought was funny and not just deeply sad.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I watched for Chris O'Dowd, knowing that I would probably hate it, as I've not found any Judd Apatow -attached movie to be the un-funny, starting with Knocked Up and The 40 Year Old Virgin. And I did end up pretty much hating most of the movie, except for Chris and the girl who played Sookie on Gilmore Girls.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
I think this movie is hilarious and great. Basically all the characters are women, and despite being about a marriage, it's not a love story (the main girl has a love interest, yeah, but he's such a minor part of the story and mostly represents her own problems). The message is to suck it up and not obsess over your problems, but look at what you have and work with it. It's a friendship story.

also... it's really funny, I don't know how haters claim it's not funny. C'mon. I always assumed it was just angry sexist men who can't handle a female comedian complaining about the supposed lack of humor. Remember the shitting scene? Come on, that was hilarious.

SPOILERS

Yeah, I agree. I was expecting to love it but some of the jokes where really hit or miss for me. I guess I was expecting a movie about Bridesmaids and ended up with the story of this gal who's life was tearing apart, and the only thing that made her feel better was that the girl who was "taking her place" marriage was sucky. MEH. There where stuff that did made me laugh (Melissa McCarthy and the puppies had me in stitches). And I did like the romance between the main character and the cop. But otherwise yeah. Meh.

That was one of the most deeply depressing movies I've ever seen. I was so disappointed after I'd heard nothing for months but how funny it was, and then when I finally got the chance to see it, it was just unrelentingly bleak and not at all what I was expecting.

Could someone reupload this to imgur or another such site?

I've been looking around and some pictures hosted on imageshack do show up for me, but not the ones in the secret posts??

For example, the picture post yesterday by al28894 showed up just fine for me.

I don't even know anymore :(

I always felt like it was like two kind of okay movies that were put together. One was the comedy and the other was Stranger Than Fiction with cupcakes.

actual transcript

[Picture is a poster featuring the cast from the movie "Bridesmaids". They are a woman wearing a wedding dress and her bridesmaids wearing pink dresses standing against a red brick wall and looking though and challenging at the viewer. They're all wearing a white collar, and some wearing pearl earrings. The first one has a full figure, and her dress has actual sleeves and is longer than the version worn by all the other bridesmaids, dark brown hair pulled back in a bun, and light skin. The next one has long blonde hair and light skin and is leaning forward, supported by the women around her, and has a knee bent and her foot against the wall. The next one has paler skin and red hair pulled back. The next one has blonde hair reaching her neck and light skin, the one wearing a wedding dress has tanner skin, wavy long brown hair reaching a little past her shoulders and pulled back with pink hair accessories. Her dress is sleeveless and strapless, a fairly simple design with a pink lash around her waist and many waves? around the skirt. The last bridesmaid is turned sideways and leaning on her arms against the bride's shoulder, and has dark brown hair pulled back and light olive skin.]

It's been over two years since this movie came out and I still can't believe people thought it was the funniest movie they've ever seen.

Since when has watching a person's life go from bad to worse with very few comedic moments in between considered funny?

I'm already really terrible with cringe comedies (I get secondhand embarrassment quick) but when I saw this movie I just thought nearly ever scene went on way longer than it needed to.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-03 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah I didn't find it that funny. There were some pretty hilarious moments like the one on the plane, but after that it just got depressing as fuck and reminded me of all the things I hated in my life.

Not watching it again. No way.

I loved this movie. It restarted the lost momentum started by people like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler-- the movement of women who can be hot AND funny, as well as imperfect, and that women can take part in toilet humor. If your real problem is a narrative of a life going from bad to worse, I don't know what fandom you can happily take part in. Sounds like your SOL, OP.

While I didn't love the movie, I enjoyed it well enough. I also appreciate its existence much, much more and hope that the trend female-led comedies that have slapstick and stuff in it continues, even if those aren't necessarily my thing.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-04 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
This movie was proof to me that humor is very subjective and even if you think you have the same humor as everyone else you can sometimes be surprised. Case in point being the first time I saw this: my sisters loved it and I, on the other hand, am glad I don't have to ever see it again.

That's not to say I didn't enjoy all of it. Any part with Melissa McCarthy and those puppies was well worth watching.
