Tbh, usually I'm one of those "I don't care" blokes. But the "don't care" posts come with my opinions on people in question; I just use the events in their lives as a cause to write about them (even if I feel nothing about what happened, I may still be interested in a particular person as a phenomenon). When a writer I knew dies, I may write something like "well, everyone seems to be distraught over the death of N, but I find that I care little, since from their books and what I know of their personality I formed a such-and-such opinion, and for such-and-such reason they were not my cup of tea".

I do this not to spite the ones who are genuinely upset, but to analyse the information I have on N and my sentiments regarding this information. To be clear, I wouldn't do this if I had any friends who would be seriously hurt by my (normally very unemotionally written) posts.
