I thought the Jude Law version did use his cane. Maybe not, I guess watching the movies on a tiny screen on a bus barely counts as watching.

He uses it intermittantly (which is actually kind of neat as for lots of people, pain/ability levels fluctuate, and sometimes a prop is absolutely necessary and sometimes it isn't).

I might be wrong, but I think that the intermittent use of Watson's cane in the Ritchie version is a nod to the fact that in the ACD books, the war wound changes places, so sometimes Watson would need a cane (When the wound is on his leg) and sometimes he wouldn't (when the wound is on his shoulder)

Also, at least in the first movie, they made a big deal of the fact that the cane is both a necessity due to his war injury, and a weapon .

He uses it throughout most of the movies, but it seems he ditches it when he needs to run during an action scene (or when he needed to dance with Holmes lol).
