I kind of agree? I'm not really interested in the lives of celebrities at all; I tend not to react very strongly to hearing about things that happen to total strangers. But I'm not going to go around advertising that. Maybe it doesn't affect me that the guy on Glee died, but it obviously affected him and his family, and it obviously affected his fans, and it would make me a total douche to be like "I personally don't care about it, so all of you should stop talking about the things YOU care about so I don't have to hear it!"... and when people act like NOT caring about strangers makes them somehow superior it makes me want to punch them. Like, some people just have a lot of compassion towards everyone whether they know them or not; personally I think that's admirable.

I think it is admirable to feel compassion towards everyone whether you know them or not. It must also be very stressful, because a lot of people die. All the time. For all sorts of reasons.

Oh, yes, I'm sure it is. I know that a lot of people who have this trait don't like to have it. Still, if they are emotionally affected and talking about what affected them, it's pretty rude to tell them that you don't care.

I feel like a lot of the people moved by the deaths of celebrities are not moved by the deaths of all the other people dying all the time. They're moved by the deaths of these people they feel like they know, even though they don't.

...And? I mean, I know it's not black-or-white either you care about strangers or you don't. Some people might be sad about celebrities but not the person on the local news who died the same way, for some people it might be vice-versa. My point is that there's nothing wrong with caring about strangers.
