Canadian here, and while I've been to France and England in the past, for the value of $ spent, my very favourite vacations have been road-tripping in the US. We picked up a National Park pass and hit every national park we could reach in the Southwestern US. I have a special love for southern Utah (Moab!), Zion! Carlsbad Caverns is fabulous, we loved Santa Fe. Sadly, Big Sur was totally fogged in and I mistook it for Transylvania. We even went to see Carhenge in Nebraska. Love the National Parks, love the quirky roadside attractions, and love that there are hotels/motels everywhere and I can just wander where I want.

I'll be back for more road-tripping!

You should go to Tennessee! Huge and has some really cool places. I personally love Chattanooga.

I'm laughing a bit that you just told someone (from Canada no less) that Tennessee is huge. I like TN and all, but its size isn't really its outstanding quality.

I just drove thru it. To me that was its stand out trait. "Where are we?" "Tennessee. Just like we were 3 hours ago." It is the state that never ends.

AYRT. Give me some Tennessee highlights! I haven't wandered over that way yet - we've covered the west side of the States, but the eastern US is still the undiscovered country (for me, anyway).

Chatanooga is my favorite part of TN! They have an underground waterfall called Ruby Falls, which is awesome. There is also a place called Rock City which has this cool "Fairytale" cave thing. You look through the cave windows and each cavern represents a fairy tale. Realllllyyy cool.

Okay, that sounds awesome; I'm adding it to my list. (Plus, Graceland. It's probably a gong show, but I can't resist that kind of kitschy attraction.)
