I actually really like the Trigun dub. And the Cowboy Bebop dub. Though in general I agree that I prefer subbed things for the nuances that get lost when translated (and this goes for things other than just anime, like dramas, movies of all languages, etc).

I don't like watching dubs of any media because I want to hear the original acting the way the original director intended it. I've heard dubs where the dub voice actor gave a particular line a totally different intonation than the original voice, and it ended up giving the dubbed scene a completely different feeling.

At least with the original voice acting, even if I can't understand the language I can get the nuances of intonation and stuff like that that might end up changed in the dub.

I never really thought about it that way, but it's true! And like someone said upthread, sometimes when they dub they try and match the timing of the lines to the mouth motions, which can result in changing whole sentences/leaving things out.
