Re: Vacations!
Seriously though, which? I've been to so many places over the years both inside the country and out I've been having trouble making a timeline of all the places I have visited.
Do you want to know about the most exotic place I've visited inside the country? Do you want to know the most historical place I have ever visited? Do you want to know the most impromptu vacation I've ever had? Or do you want to know the most farthest place I have ever been, whether it be East or West?
WHICH ONE, KAIJIN!?!
Re: Vacations!
Also, I enjoyed a great deal of that music you posted. I didn't tell you earlier because like 3 days into my trip I used all my data and could not use the internet on my phone. D: Apparently Tumblr is a data hog.
Re: Vacations!
most exotic place I've visited inside the country?
I would say the city of river/seaside city of Kuching in Sarawak, East Malaysia. I have been there a few times already, the most recent being about a year back due to a family reunion. The city is bisected by the large Sarawak River and has a lot of history (only country to be ruled by "White Rajahs" for over a century. Not a sultan or a company, but a real British white family).
I spent my four days there going up and down the river, walking into the Old Town and it's quaint eclectic shops, and having fun with my relatives there. Also, going to see the Orang Asli villages (the indigenous people who can surprisingly build good wooden homes, and tall ones too).
the most historical place I have ever visited?
Turkey, full stop. I spent twelve days there with my family during our December Long Break (it's summer forever in Malaysia!) and it was the most enjoyable trip I have ever had. The Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque, Our hotel in the historic Sultanahmet District, the Spice Bazaar and Grand Bazaar (complete with Malay-speaking Turkish traders!), we all decided that another trip must be taken to savour Istanbul to the fullest.
We also went to Kusadasi the seaside-resort city, a Greek village in Izmir, the white balcony-springs of Pammukale (complete with hostorical Roman town right next door!), a lunch in a caravansary in Konya, 2 days in cave-ridden Cappadocia (first time sleeping in a hotel-cave!) and all along back to Istabul through the city of Ankara. Also, we spent the entire leg from Kusadasi back to Istanbul through a van through which we all agreed that the views were beautiful.
most impromptu vacation I've ever had?
Definitely the one to Penang Island. When I was in primary school, there was a period of time in August when the forest-burning in Indonesia got so bad the Air Pollution Index went "BEYOND HAZARDOUS" and you literally can't see twenty paces in front of you due to the smoke. My mother rounded up the whole family and we all drove north to Penang one Wednesday morning, work and school be damned.
Thing is, the haze followed us, so we were confined to visit the indoor shopping malls instead of seeing the many outdoor sights of the island. Whoops.
most farthest place I have ever been, whether it be East or West?
East: Hokkaido, Japan. We followed a majority-Chinese tour group up north but thanks to my sister being a bit knowledgeable in Japanese (she has a foster family in Osaka which she visits almost every year) we get along with the locals much better than the others in the group. We cruised up the Shiretoko Peninsula to see some icebergs (there were none :( ), went on a midnight fireworks show at Lake Akan (frozen lake, soft snowfall, hot milk in hand, freezing half to death), went skiing on Mount Sorak (first time skiing, though I mostly just fell! ) and went shopping in Hakodate (I want the Pachabel Canon in D Minor music box! I WAAANT IT!!!).
After that, we split from the group and went to Tokyo. Went shopping in Ginza, visited the Emperor's Palace, and walked under budding cherry blossom trees. Language barrier? Talk to my sister! Also works when finding the nearest mosque and travelling on the Tokyo Subway system.
West: London. Definitely London. My Japanese-speaking sister had to go there for Uni for about a year and so one winter's day my dad and I visited her and stayed there for a week. Never realized London parks are friggin' HUGE. Got to visit a few museums (including the famous Natural History one and bought a few souvenirs there.
Then we took a train to Paris and visited Versailles. Saw the Eiffel Tower, the Champs-Elysees (they're STILL showing ROTG there, who knew!?), the Palace of Versailles, and walked around the Seine. Our hotel is quite close to the Lourve but due to time constraints we never went in. Missed opportunity, that one.
And that's it! Sorry for not putting any links, but I'm currently to lazy to care (fasting for almost a month does that to you).
Also, yay for liking my music choices! I thought you had forgotten all about it!
Re: Vacations!
My mother would love to see London (she is an anglophile). And I forget how close those European countries are (you can just drive to another country)!
Are there any other countries you really want to visit?
Re: Vacations!
If I have a choice, I would like to go back to Turkey and maybe visit historical Europe, especially France with all of its towns and villages and rivers and woods. Too bad I can't speak French though!
