TELL ME OF YOUR BOOKS, F!S
(Anonymous) 2013-08-04 09:33 pm (UTC)(link)However. In going through my books, I am rather disappointed at some of the things that have survived my many moves, and mourning some of the things that have not. My biggest disappointment is that I don't read nearly as much as I used to (nor nearly as much as I should). Instead I end up killing my free time (what little I have of it) playing Sims or on Fandom!Secrets. As a result, there are something like FOUR books on my shelves that I've bought in the last four years. And way more fiction/cheap paperbacks than non-fiction, IMO. But I wasn't a great fan of much non-fiction when I was younger. I am now, but mostly I read library ebooks, so.
What surprises have you encountered when clearing out/organizing your bookshelves, F!S?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-04 09:42 pm (UTC)(link)In all seriousness, I actually have a good enough idea of what books I have that surprises are really rare [a feat considering I have 2,000+ books]. -shrugs-
Though, you have reminded me that I probably should actually set up a spread sheet or something and take an actual inventory sometime.
Re: TELL ME OF YOUR BOOKS, F!S
(Anonymous) 2013-08-04 09:51 pm (UTC)(link)....because I still have IT textbooks from 1998 that are definitely not worth the paper they're printed on anymore (nor were they worth the money that went into the courses, apparently, since I ended up in an IM-related career instead). Plus all the CDs from Microsoft with the Windows 98 utilities, etc. Yeeeeeaaaaaahhh those binders aren't much use to me anymore. Which is one of the things I regret not turfing. I also haven't really looked at my bookshelves in about five years, and my memory is definitely not what it used to be, unfortunately.
I have managed to download most, if not all, of my hardcopy books (the fiction, at any rate) in ebook format. Though I have read somewhere, in order for it not to be piracy, you have to have (meaning, keep) an actual physical copy of the book in question. IDK. Anyway, I downloaded a big package of ebooks, but have not had a chance to match them up with what I have on the shelves, thus my taking stock. That, and, we're getting the 1-800-GOT-JUNK people in pretty soon, so it's time to man up.....Not just for the books. There is loooooooads of obsolete electronics lying around the place that really, really, has to go, as well. (Though that can't go with the GOT-JUNK people.)

I'm so happy, because a friend gave it to me, and when I clear out my shelves I tend to do it impulsively and regret it later, so I was worried it was in a donation bin somewhere.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-04 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)Beside an amazing trove of old GDR literature and some bizarre guides (apparently we have a fitness guide written by the Klitschko Brothers and a science fiction kinda noirish youth series loosely translated as: "the sperm bank robbery")
Also there's loads of classic literature from all over the world and about one or two fairytale books for every major country of the last century. And also some world war 2 themed books that apparently used to belong to my mothers grandfather (long since deceased).
We are currently doing a big book give away with friends and seeing some of my teenage years fantasy and crime books merrily colorful peeking out between the mostly brown and dusty tomes is quite the strange feeling.
On a last note, thanks to this I finally (over ten years after the fact) found my brothers carefully hidden away Akira and Ghost in the Shell books, no taking them for myself or giving them away of course but it was really good to finally get to read them.
